Put it on your hit list: The Design Museum is now open in Kensington

We appreciate good design here at LUMA CONCEPT HOTEL LONDON, so it may not be surprising to learn that that we are extremely excited about the Design Museum reopening in Kensington, just up the road.

Not only does this museum examine iconic examples of design, branding, conceptual art and aesthetics – but it also celebrates timeless ingenuity and out-of-the-box thinking.

Welcome back!

After closing down for refurbishment in 2015, the Design Museum finally reopened its sleek doors to the general public on the 24th of November 2016. You can now find the Design Museum on Kensington High Street only moments away from the tube station.

What’s inside?

What’s inside the Design Museum? An extensive collection of design and architecture, both historical and cutting-edge. A running theme through all the museum’s exhibitions – both permanent and temporary – is an exploration of the true power of aesthetics.

Previous exhibitions have included titles such as ‘50 years of British Road Signs’, ‘Louis Kahn: The Power of Architecture’, and ‘Our bond with brands’.

Exhibitions at the Design Museum are eclectic and never what you’d expect.

Where is it?

The new Design Museum is located on High Street Kensington a few moments from the tube station. This means it would take you under 15 minutes on the District Line from Hammersmith, the closest tube station to LUMA CONCEPT HOTEL LONDON, to get there!

What’s on now?

In the spirit of new creative horizons and rebirth, the Design Museum has several cutting-edge and innovative design exhibitions running until the summer of 2017.

The exhibition ‘Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World’ (24 November 2016 – 23 April 2017) explores problematic aspects of our society – both introspective as well as on a global scale.

Until mid-February, you could see the ‘Beazley Designs of the year’ (24 November 2016 – 19 February 2017). This award celebrates the best in new design and is in its ninth year.

What will the new Design Museum bring to the world in 2017? It will be intriguing to see to say the least.

How much is a ticket?

It’s free!

Some temporary exhibitions will require tickets, but the main building will be free to enter.
