What to expect

The Cartoon Museum‘s constantly changing collections have included original prints from The Beano, Dandy, Viz, Punch Magazine, Splitting Image and all other iconic British cartoons platforms.

Not only will you journey through a visual timeline of animation’s British identity through the years, but you will also learn the history of cartoons and how they interacted with British politics and society – from 18th century onwards. The knowledge provided here about your favourite cartoon/character will leave you awestruck.

Even from just looking at their website at cartoonmuseum.org, you can learn gob-smacking facts about the history of cartoons.

Did you know, for example, that the word ‘caricature’ came from the Italian word ‘caricare’ which means to load or exaggerate?

Exhibitions

The exhibitions at The Cartoon Museum constantly change throughout the year, as the ‘Pictures from Punch: A 175th Anniversary‘ exhibition starts drawing to a close (ending 22nd of January 2017) the ‘Shock: 40 Years of 2000 A.D.‘ Exhibition is getting ready to show us a fascinating array of animated depictions of the future, from 25th January – 23 April 2017.
